Volunteer of the Year | EMSA South West

Volunteer of the Year

Nothing says thank you better than the smiles on our players’ faces. We want to dedicate a special space for someone who has gone above and beyond to help keep those smiles big and bright, and show our appreciation for going that extra mile.

Each year, EMSA recognizes volunteers in the following categories:

1.  OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER – Outstanding services to EMSA, Zones, Communities, Boards, Committees, Coaches and Managers.
2.  AWARD OF MERIT or MERITORIOS SERVICES AWARD – Recognizes the efforts of those people who have made a significant contribution to the sport of soccer within EMSA for no less than 10 years.  Nominations must be sent by the zones to the EMSA Executive Committee for ratification.
3.  LIFE TIME MEMBER – This one explains itself.  This award cannot be presented to anyone who is actively in our organization at the time the award is allocated.
In 2018, SWEMSA recognized three volunteers who have worked tirelessly for our program.
Ali Kamal has been involved in the Duggan community soccer program for many years as a Coordinator, the Duggan Mother’s Day Tournament Chair & a community + Premier Coach in both the indoor & outdoor seasons.  He has also been an active member of the SWEMSA board as a District Director, Age Level Director & Secretary.
Al Jaworsky is a long time indoor & outdoor Coach in TRSA.  He has been instrumental in building a group of Center & Assistant Referees for both the community & Premier programs.  Al is SWEMSA’s Referee Assignor for the U13-U19 + Premier age levels, as well as acting as our Referee Mentor.  He also sits on the TRSA board as their Treasurer.
Ron Egan served as a Coach with the Twin Brooks community for many years.  He exemplified the true meaning of sportsmanship by providing a positive playing environment for his teams, consistently maintained a team atmosphere – regardless of the score, always showed respect for game officials, players on both teams, parents & SWEMSA volunteers.  Ron has retired from coaching soccer & is sorely missed!

In 2017, three tireless volunteers were recognized at the annual EMSA Christmas Party.

Julie and Todd Beschell – Both have coached for numerous years from U6 to U14, indoor and outdoor. They mentor new coaches, organize soccer clinics, part of the Parkallen Community league Board and part of MADD.

Larry Hrycak – For being a long time Coach, Equipment Organizer, SWEMSA Age Level Director and Riverbend District Director.

Bernie Brinkmann – For being actively involved in our program for many years as Coach, Aspen Gardens Soccer Coordinator, Southgate District Director, Treasurer, Secretary, SWEMSA Age Level Director and Referee.
