EPS Charges Against Former Coach

Edmonton Police Service has advised the EMSA that they have arrested a former coach from our program. Although this incident is disturbing to the EMSA and the charges are very serious, we wait for the conclusion of the legal process as it concerns this individual.

The safety and well being of the kids and youth in EMSA is always our top priority. We take any incident of this nature involving past, present and potential, coaches of EMSA very seriously.

At this point, we have no reason to believe the trust of children or parents was broken during his coaching time with EMSA.

EMSA developed a mandatory screening process with help from the Edmonton Police Services. Criminal background checks are done as part of this process for each coach.

EMSA will fully cooperate with police to ensure they have all the information they need to proceed.

EMSA regularly reviews its policies and screening process to see if there are ways to further strengthen them moving forward.
